In december 2022 Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker creates together with eleven dancers a dance performance at the first floor of the Louvre. The Italian and French galleries of the museum are the starting point for a reflection on the image as a way of worldmaking. It draws on the notions of limits and extremities, and activates the museum’s architecture and artwork, by exploring strategies of framing and by playing with scale, contrast, and excess.

Evi Cats captured the performance for over the whole performing period and is finishing the filmic outcome of it.

CHANTS LOINTAINS

far away songs

2022

Three women in three bars, all in the same street in Cureghem, Brussels. They work seven days a week and the only people they serve are men. While the camera stays and waits with the waitresses, we start to dream of songs playing in other places. Far Away Songs is a film with a feminist point of view on work, waiting and longing.

AU-DESSUS DE NOS TÊTES

above our heads

2022

Above our heads is filmed in front of the door of the health insurance office in Molenbeek, Brussels. The film lasts twelve minutes. The queue more than two-and-a-half hours.

A man in line says, "There are people, like me for example, who don't know how to use a computer, or don't have one. That's why we stand in line. That's why we wait." While we wait we look up at the birds.

KADER ME IN

close me in

2021

After Tobi Lakmaker writes among others about Evi Cats in his book The History of My Sexuality, Evi decides to turn the gaze around. Close Me In is the result: an intimate examination of the dynamics of portraiture. A film about the powerlessness that arises the moment we surrender to the other — in stories as well as in love.
